Another Reason I’d Like To Get Rid of Our Car

So many things to improve upon in this little walk of life -too many shortcmings to list unabridged, but for starters – I would love to be car free – for obvious reasons involving energy independence, health, elective wars etc. but alas we are not free of the combustion engine as of today – course I’m working on it, but not successfully, so I guess that just means i’m thinking about working on it – since I still have a vehicle in the driveway – but not as we speak actually, because the little 50 mpg 2001 Echo received 4 recall notices and is down at the service department – it was driving just fine but so was the space shuttle until it went boom so…. that recall notice was a bit jolting since I drive children around in it, but it was also fairly polite of them, like A British gent apologizing when he causes your pint to spill by knocking your elbow in a crowded pub. Toyota took it a step further and offered to fix it – buy me a few automotive rounds but they did not go so far as to throw in the entree of a rental car or anything like that… still, I guess that’s more than the Brit did when he didn’t offer to buy me a new pint – though I think Toyota is bound by law whereas said Brit was bound only by personal fiscal realities, generosity and by virtue that I still had about half a pint left when the dust settled and the liquid dried or otherwise drained somewhere into the floorboards below.

Reality is, or my perception of my reality is that I will need some sort of vehicle beyond my bikes for kid and family transport – Veg car is in the works but just like the car free mantra – I’m working on it…. but for some lazy reason not closing the deal yet. I vow to be a bio-deisel/veg oil transportion owner this year!

Came up with this slogan for Threadless.com and it got a 35 percent vote rating but was not made in to a t shirt, hell, what do you have to do to get a winning shirt over there? – but I liked it all the same – here it is and we’ll make it the quote of the day thingy as well.

“Inside Every Car… is a person in need of a walk.”

I think I’ll go for one, now.

We must do something for our poor planet imagine if just a 10% were using a bicycle to move!

I got here after reading “Momentum is your friend”. I absolutely loved the book and have bought a copy as a present for my cousin-slash-bike-partner. I am planning a solo cycle trip across Canada next spring and summer, and was pleasantly surprised to see it being the topic of this blog. Yay for having archives to catch up on everything you did. (Not so yay for still being too much of a technical novice, but there are courses for everything.)

I was wondering: what was that slogan, then?

  3. Hey,
    I love what you’e doing!
Don’t ever change and best of luck.

For now you should consider snagging a TerraPass. They’ll balance out all of your car’s carbon emissions for the year by investing in clean energy projects. TerraPass.com – Should cost you less than $50 for a whole year of emissions balancing. Its not as good as everyone driving electric or biodiesel but it is a big step forward!
